ABOUT
roro technoflesh Studio is the design and research practice of Simone C Niquille.
Simone C Niquille is a Swiss designer and researcher based in Amsterdam NL. Her practice technoflesh Studio investigates the representation of identity & the digitisation of biomass in the networked space of appearance. She holds a BFA in Graphic Design from Rhode Island School of Design and an MA in Visual Strategies from the Sandberg Instituut Amsterdam. She is Chief Information Officer at the Design Academy Eindhoven.
In 2016 Niquille was a research fellow of Het Nieuwe Instituut Rotterdam and received the Talent Development Grant of Creative Industries NL. In 2018/2019 she was recipient of the Housing The Human grant. She received the 2020 Pax Media Art Award and is 2021/22 Mellon Researcher at the Canadian Center for Architecture (CCA) for the collaborative, multidisciplinary research project The Digital Now.
Her work has been exhibited most recently at HeK-Haus der Elektronischen Künste (2020), Fotomuseum Winterthur (2019), La Gaite Lyrique (2019), Istanbul Biennial (2018), ZKM Karlsruhe (2017). She has published writing in Volume Magazine, AD Architecture, ED Archinect and e-flux. Her work has been featured in Wired Design, BBC Click, The Verge, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, SRF Swiss Public Radio, La Liberation. She has taught Design Research at the Graphic Design Department of ArtEZ University Arnhem and at the Architectural Association London. In fall 2019 Niquille has co-taught a course on Human Factors in Motion Capture at ArtCenter Pasadena in Los Angeles. In 2018 Niquille was commissioned contributor to the Dutch Pavilion at the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale with the work ‘Safety Measures’ on the history and future of ergonomic software and standardised human measurements.
In 2020 Niquille was a resident at La Becque Residency and joined ECAL’s Master in Photography department for the Spring 2020 semester as guest lecturer for the research project Automated Photography. Niquille is a 2021/23 Mellon Researcher at the Canadian Center for Architecture as part of The Digital Now research project and contributor to [permanent beta], a research platform by the Fotomuseum Winterthur.
Currently she is investigating the architectural and bodily consequences of computer vision, researching the politics of synthetic training dataset.
